Owen Gregor Teague
born on Tuesday June 25th @1134pm
he was
8lbs 13.5 oz, 21 inches long
We had a very excited big brother who wanted to be in the delivery room the entire time. He was so excited to see his brother.
We got to the hospital around 830am. I was 4 cm, 0% effaced. Greg was still in San Antonio and made it by 1230. I was only 5cm, 90% effaced when he arrived and I had just gotten my epidural. I was beyond happy to see him. My labor progressed pretty normal. I was scared pretty much the entire time and kinda moody.
By 805pm I was ready to push. I was still feeling the epidural and so they turned it off. I pushed for about and hour, turning side to side. By 9 I could feel everything. I continued to push and push and feel everything. The baby would come down when I pushed and when I stopped he'd move right back up. I was getting the hang of pushing and doing ok. By 1030 I was exhausted and in SO MUCH pain. This was a big baby. The dr decided to use the vacuum to see if it could help him come down. He was just too big. There was NO way he was coming out of me. So we decided to do a c-section. I was in so much pain and all I could do was try to not scream and scream through the contractions until the epi was working again. I remember sleeping because they gave me something to take the edge off. Next thing I know it was time....
Owen was born at 1134pm, he was a big boy!
He was so laid back and easy going, not to mention he looks JUST like his big brother.
It was a long night. But we were so happy to have him here finally.
We had lots of visitors the next day. It's all kinda blurry. Owen had a cut on the back of his head from the vacuum. Owen was having a hard time keeping his blood sugars up. He was having a hard time eating. They wanted to keep him in the nursery Wednesday night to try to get him to eat and to try to get his sugars up. The brought him to us Thursday morning. I was so happy to see him. We snuggled and snuggled, enjoyed our morning together and tried to get him to eat. They took him to the nursery for his check with his pediatrician about 7 something. By 8 the dr was in talking to us saying they noticed his eyes moving side to side when he ate. They wanted to observe his next feeding. By 1130, lunch was just dropped off, my family and Landon were in the room and waiting for Owen. Then the NICU doctor walks in and introduces himself. He said while they were observing him eating his eyes rolled back and they saw the whites of his eyes. They thought he had a seizure.
They wanted to keep him for observation and put him on phenobarbital in case he was going to have more seizure's. We were devastated. We got to go visit in the NICU. Again, lots of this is a blur I was so upset when I saw him. He was just in our arms and now he was sleeping in bed under a warmer with needles and cords galore. They ran a CT scan to see if he had something wrong in his head and ordered an EEG. They of course did lots of blood work to try to get some answers. Turns out his white blood cell count is LOW. They are perplexed as to why it's so low and he is doing and looks fine.
I got released Friday night. I've been a big ball of emotions. Owen is continuing to slowly do better. His white blood cells are up a tad, and they are still running tons of tests to figure out what it is and try to treat it. They talked of moving him to Cooks in FT. Worth, but as of today they are thinking they won't have to. They say with his counts so low he is like someone who's just gone through chemo. It's so sad.
I've been in lots of pain. Pain from the surgery, then pain from pushing for 3 hours, then pain from leaving my baby at the hospital, to pain in my breasts because my milk has come in. I'm in pain because my legs and feet are SO SWOLLEN I can't be up on them at all. Then I was in pain because I had to pass my first BM. I'm hoping after today things will ease up and I'll be able to move around more. My section site is feeling pretty good. If could just get this swelling under control. My dr did call in a med to help, but I feel like I am on SO many meds, I'd hate to take another. I am on pain pills as needed, iron pills because my iron is low, thyroid pill, prenatal vitamin, stool softener, and now a diuretic. (I haven't even gotten it from the pharmacy yet)
Oh yeah, my pointer finer and middle finger on my right hand are still numb. Not sure why, and today I noticed that my right knee is kinda numb. I'm not sure if that's from the swelling or what....I just know I am a big mess.
I commend you if you made it through all this. I will def blog daily now and update and add pictures from the course of our hospital stay. If you could just say a little prayer for our sweet Owen that he gets better and we get to bring him home soon. I miss him so much and it's hard to be away from him....
